Evolution is my favorite cartoon for several reasons. The animation just kicked ass. The fluid motion of the characters were very realistic and I really love to see the characters as close to real as possible while remaining true to their comic images. Even with most of the X-Men being in high school they were still recognizably themselves. I do, however, wish sometimes that Logan and Ororo had been allowed to be children along with the others. What an array of stories they could've added... although many of the episodes made sense to have them as the teachers. And since my favorite het pairing is Storm/Wolverine forever... I am at least glad that they were allowed to "stay" together as adult versions. I also think all the voices of the characters fit them perfectly and I really love Wolverine's orange and black uniform.
I know many people hate the fact that he was wearing such bright colors all the time, especially the yellow and blue... but I thought it made sense in a way. Why would someone as deadly as Wolverine need to hide. Like a bee or hornet, or even a poison frog, he comes with bright colors to show the world "fear me, I have no need to hide".
Wolverine and the Xmen is coming in strong and vying for the first place spot. The animation is okay although it seems flatter than Evolution. Most of the voices work for me and the stories, like Evo, have been outside the comics but close enough to the comic arcs for fans to know what they're talking about or referring to. I like the fact that this time Scott isn't so perfect and he's finally showing some real emotions and letting them lead him into trouble - putting the Boyscout almost on the same level as Wolverine, whom he still seems to have issues with. But I like it. The issues between them feel real and are dealt with responsibly. I'm impressed with it, more than I thought I would be. The whole issue with Wolverine leading the Xmen was the first issue the team had to come to terms with and I think that was an awesome way to start the new line up. Concerns were real and had history and are being dealt with while they all try to settle into their new roles.
The 90's Series - I never liked the gritty look or the voices - esp. Wolverine and Sabretooth's and Xavier's was irritating beyond belief. Everyone else was okay. I loved the fact that every episode was taken straight out of the comics and we get to see the issue come to animated life. Jubilee was fun to have around and Gambit had a good role in it and was true to form. But the animation, voices and grittiness keeps it last on my list.
How's that?
